Auxerre is a small city in the region of Bourgogne, which is the very heart of France. In spite of this central location, don’t expect this to be a super-thrill, hot-action, cosmopolitan metropolis. The two most interesting things about Auxerre are its history and its wine, which, for certain old-school tourists, is more than enough.

The strong point of Auxerre’s tourist offer is its history. Its location, right in the middle of the historically famous province of Bourgogne, is one of the main causes which influenced the city’s tale throughout the numberless years of its existence. If you are that kind of tourist with a strong penchant for history or at least if you enjoy visiting a city with a special, unique atmosphere, than traveling to Auxerre is an excellent idea.
